Smart compliance, future-proof innovation: Umaniq joins the FTI Alliance 

FTI is excited to announce a new FTI Alliance partner: Umaniq.

Active in the field of Data and AI governance, risk and compliance management, Umaniq helps organizations innovate with confidence – ensuring that bold ideas are backed by solid compliance strategies.  Through this collaboration, Umaniq will support the FTI Alliance with tailored training and strategic guidance, helping companies navigate the fast-evolving landscape of data legislation. 

 

Bridging innovation and regulation 

Umaniq stands for ‘human intelligence’, a blend of IQ and a human-centric mindset. The company helps organizations unlock the value of data while staying compliant with evolving regulations like the AI Act, GDPR, EHDS, and the Data Act. 

 

“Too often, legislation is seen as a brake on innovation,” says Koen Mathijs, one of the three Umaniq’s founding partners. “But with the right governance in place, it can actually become a driver. We don’t build AI tools ourselves – we build the frameworks that make safe and compliant innovation possible.”

A unique triple mix 

Umaniq’s strength lies in combining legal, technical, and academic expertise. The exceptional blend of IT, law, and academia that founders Geoffrey Ceunen, Jens Meijen, and Koen Mathijs bring together ensures that the company offers a unique perspective. Geoffrey and Koen have many years of hands-on experience in privacy, data, and security, while Jens contributes cutting-edge expertise in artificial intelligence. This complementary mix sets Umaniq apart. “That combination allows us to look ahead,” says Koen. “Academic insights often surface years before they reach the business world. By tapping into that early knowledge, we help organizations prepare for what’s next, long before it hits the mainstream.” 

 

In addition to consultancy, Umaniq also runs a growing Academy. They co-developed Europe’s first postgraduate program for AI Compliance Officers with PXL Hogeschool and offer training through partners like Febelfin Academy. “We believe in giving back. It’s not enough to advise. We want to help organizations build internal maturity through education.” 

 

Partnering for progress 

The partnership with FTI is rooted in a shared belief in the power of knowledge and collaboration. Umaniq will contribute to the FTI Academy, offering tailored training programs on data and AI governance. “We see a growing need for guidance and education in this space. Many companies want to do more with data but don’t know how to do it safely or legally. That’s where we come in.”
